NCA&T ADVANCE-IT’s SBS Study

Empowerment of Women Faculty in STEM: Breaking Barriers and Promoting Equity

The ADVANCE-IT SBS study examines barriers to the advancement of women through an exploration of gender and gender/race intersectionality within HBCUs and majority institutions. An analysis of the ways in which these barriers operate, and strategies to eliminate them, can be useful in the development of campus specific action plans. Drs. Maya Corneille and Anna Lee will employee a mixed-methods approach using quantitative subjective reports (ratings on questionnaires) and qualitative subjective reports (interviews) to investigate gender barriers within HBCUs. This project is especially important to NCA&T because of its historical mission of training persons of color and a legacy of educating women. O
